About this item

The Geekworm X1002 is a compact PCIe-to-M.2 NVMe SSD adapter designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi 5, allowing users to add high-speed storage via the board’s native PCIe interface. Mounted underneath the Pi, the X1002 supports M.2 Key-M NVMe SSDs in sizes ranging from 2230 to 2280, and its bottom-placement design helps maintain access to the GPIO header and allows for HAT compatibility, making it a clean and space-efficient solution. The board includes a built-in LED that indicates drive activity—solid when powered and flashing during read/write operations. Power is supplied via an included flexible flat cable (FFC), supporting SSDs up to 5 W without requiring an additional power supply. While the board performs well with many SSDs, users have reported compatibility issues with certain models, particularly those that use Phison controllers such as the WD Blue SN550/SN580 and WD Black SN770/SN850, which may not be detected by the Raspberry Pi 5. In contrast, Samsung NVMe SSDs have been found to work reliably. To achieve optimal results, users should ensure their Raspberry Pi firmware and bootloader are fully updated. With a compatible SSD and proper setup, the X1002 provides fast boot times, responsive storage performance, and is ideal for use in NAS, development, or media projects.
