The Digilent Pmod ToF (Time of Flight) sensor is a compact and efficient optical distance measurement module designed for embedded systems and robotics applications. Utilizing the Renesas ISL29501 integrated circuit, the sensor employs Square Wave Modulated Indirect Time of Flight (SWM-ITOF) technology to calculate distances by measuring the phase shift of modulated light reflected from a target. This method enables precise distance measurements with a resolution of up to 16 bits. The sensor can measure distances ranging from a few centimeters to 5 meters, making it suitable for various proximity detection tasks. It operates with a power supply voltage between 2.7V and 3.3V and consumes a maximum current of 55mA. The Pmod ToF communicates with host boards via an I²C interface, allowing for easy integration with microcontrollers and FPGA platforms. Additionally, it features onboard EEPROM to store calibration data, ensuring consistent performance over time. The module includes a pass-through Pmod host port for daisy-chaining multiple devices, facilitating scalable sensor networks. With its low-power operation and compact form factor, the Digilent Pmod ToF sensor is an ideal choice for applications in robotics, automation, and IoT systems that require accurate distance sensing capabilities.
