The Digilent Pmod RTCC (Real-Time Clock/Calendar) is a compact, reliable module designed to provide precise timekeeping and calendar functionality for embedded systems. Powered by the Microchip MCP79410, it supports standard I²C communication and connects easily to FPGAs or microcontrollers via a standard 2×4-pin Pmod connector. The module includes an onboard lithium coin cell holder for backup power, ensuring timekeeping continues uninterrupted even during main power loss. It features two independent alarms and a multifunction output pin that can be configured for a 1 Hz square wave or other user-defined frequencies, making it useful for timed interrupts or periodic alerts. Additionally, it offers 64 bytes of SRAM and 128 bytes of EEPROM for temporary or nonvolatile data storage, such as event logs or timestamps. The compact design (approximately 1.3" × 0.8") makes it ideal for integration into space-constrained projects.
