The ELECROW Crowtail Water Sensor 2.0 is a simple and durable sensor module designed to detect the presence or onset of water using exposed conductive traces. It’s intended for applications such as rain detection, leak detection, tank overflow monitoring, or sensing when water reaches certain areas. The module is built with alternating exposed traces: some connected to ground and others as sensing traces. A weak pull‑up resistor holds the sensor line high; when water bridges (shorts) sensing traces to ground, the signal drops, which can be read by a digital I/O pin. Alternatively, the analog pin may be used to gauge the amount of contact (how much of the trace is wet), giving more nuanced detection. Because it uses basic conductive principles, it is low cost, compact, and easy to use. It has a Crowtail‑compatible 4‑pin interface so you can plug it into Crowtail‑base shields or boards without worrying about wiring the standard pins. It’s designed for 5V‑level systems, and operates within a limited temperature range. The physical size is small enough for many embedded setups. Though its principle is simple, it is sensitive and effective. It is not highly precise (not for measuring water depth) but good for presence detection tasks.
