The M274 360-Degree Rotary Encoder Brick Sensor Module (KY-040) is a compact, high-performance incremental rotary input device. Designed to detect both rotational direction and precise angular displacement, it’s perfect for applications such as stepper or servo motor control, digital potentiometers, CNC systems, and user interface knobs. This module outputs digital quadrature signals, enabling microcontrollers to accurately measure rotational increments, position, and speed. Each full rotation yields 20 pulses (20 cycles per revolution or CPR), allowing precise control in responsive applications. Operating within a 0–5 V supply voltage range, the M274 module is compatible with popular microcontroller platforms such as Arduino. Built on a PCB with brass components, it offers durability and low power consumption. Physically, the module measures approximately 32 mm in length, 19 mm in width, and 22–30 mm in height, and weighs about 10 g, making it suitable for compact installation. It includes a standard 6.6 mm threaded mounting nut hole (though the nut and washer are often sold separately). Recommended for robotics, precision instrument panels, and motor feedback systems, the M274 offers a versatile and cost-effective solution for developers and hobbyists alike.
