About this item
The Elecrow Crowtail – Electricity Sensor v2.0 is a module designed to measure alternating current (AC) safely and accurately using a current transformer (CT) based design. It’s part of the Crowtail ecosystem, making it easy to plug into Crowtail base boards or compatible microcontroller platforms without messy wiring. Its core component is the TA12‑200 current transformer which steps down higher AC currents to a smaller, manageable amplitude. This allows the sensor to handle up to 5 A AC input currents, ideal for monitoring loads, AC circuits, and household devices. Output from the module is via an analog signal, proportional to the input current, after passing through a sampling resistor. Users can connect the sensor output to an ADC (analog input) pin on microcontrollers like Arduino to read the current value. The sensor offers high accuracy (non‑linearity ≤ 0.2%) and minimal phase shift (≤ 5 minutes of arc) so the readings are precise and dependable. Designed to operate at frequencies from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, it works across most AC mains and industrial signals. It also features good dielectric strength (6 kV AC for 1 minute) for safety isolation between input and output. With its small size and modest power requirements, it’s suited for electrical monitoring, DIY energy projects, smart plugs, and more.
