The DFRobot Fermion VL6180X ToF Distance Ranging Sensor Breakout is a compact and high-precision sensor designed for accurate distance measurement using Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology. Unlike traditional infrared sensors that measure reflected light intensity, the VL6180X uses laser-based ToF sensing to directly measure how long it takes for a light signal to bounce back from a target. This ensures accurate and consistent distance readings regardless of the object's color or reflectivity. Capable of measuring distances from 0 to 100mm, and in some cases up to 200mm, the sensor provides millimeter-level accuracy, making it ideal for applications such as gesture recognition, proximity detection, robotics, and interactive interfaces. It also includes ambient light sensing, allowing it to function as a proximity and light sensor in a single compact module. With an I2C interface and 3.3V logic compatibility, the breakout is easy to integrate with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other microcontrollers. Its small size and high sensitivity make it perfect for embedded applications where space is limited and precision is critical. The VL6180X breakout simplifies complex optical distance sensing into an easy-to-use and reliable module for developers and makers alike.
