The DFRobot Fermion VL6180X ToF Distance Ranging Sensor Breakout is a compact and high-precision sensor designed for accurate distance measurement using Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology. Unlike traditional infrared sensors that measure reflected light intensity, the VL6180X uses laser-based ToF sensing to directly measure how long it takes for a light signal to bounce back from a target. This ensures accurate and consistent distance readings regardless of the object's color or reflectivity. Capable of measuring distances from 0 to 100mm, and in some cases up to 200mm, the sensor provides millimeter-level accuracy, making it ideal for applications such as gesture recognition, proximity detection, robotics, and interactive interfaces. It also includes ambient light sensing, allowing it to function as a proximity and light sensor in a single compact module. With an I2C interface and 3.3V logic compatibility, the breakout is easy to integrate with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other microcontrollers.
