About this item
The Elecrow Crowtail Moisture Sensor 2.0 is an analog soil moisture detection module that helps you monitor the moisture level in soil, useful for gardening, plant monitoring, or home greenhouse automation. It works by inserting two probe legs into the soil; moisture in the soil alters the electrical resistance between the probes, and the sensor outputs a corresponding analog voltage. For wetter soil, resistance drops and voltage rises; in dry soil the opposite is true. This version has “super long legs,” making it practical to reach deeper into the soil for more consistent readings. It’s powered by 3.3 V or 5 V, so it works with a wide variety of microcontrollers and development boards. The module includes a Crowtail compatible interface and comes with a 4‑pin Crowtail cable. Because it’s an analog sensor, you’ll typically read the values via an ADC (analog-to-digital converter) pin. It’s suitable for DIY projects, educational kits, or automated watering systems. However, since it uses resistive probes, the probes may corrode over time, so periodic maintenance or restricted duty cycles (power only when measuring) help prolong life.
