About this item
The SparkFun SEN-17731 Qwiic Soil Moisture Sensor offers a robust and accurate way to monitor soil moisture levels for smart agriculture, home gardening, and environmental monitoring projects. Unlike traditional resistive moisture sensors, this sensor uses capacitive sensing, which eliminates corrosion over time, greatly improving durability and reliability—especially in long-term outdoor applications. The sensor includes three key measurements in one compact module: soil moisture, temperature, and supply voltage monitoring. It uses capacitive technology to detect changes in the dielectric constant of the soil, which correlates with moisture content. An onboard digital temperature sensor provides ambient readings, while voltage monitoring helps track power supply levels in remote or battery-operated systems. The sensor communicates via I2C and is fully compatible with SparkFun’s Qwiic connect system, making integration solderless and seamless. With configurable I2C addresses, you can daisy-chain up to four sensors on a single bus for multi-point monitoring. Its slim profile allows easy placement into soil, plant pots, or hydroponic beds. The sensor is ideal for automated irrigation systems, environmental research, and plant health monitoring.Specifications
